Who We Are
Dr. Maury Hayashida, DPT, OCS, SCS, CSCS
FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dr. Hayashida is a board certified orthopedic specialist and physical therapist who has been practicing in Santa Barbara since 2000. He founded Hayashida & Associates Physical Therapy in 2002 where he treated patients with movement related pain and dysfunction until 2011. Since 2012, Dr. Hayashida has opened a clinic model for physical therapy called Variant Training Lab in downtown Santa Barbara (previously AKI Movement Laboratory), where he treats out-of-contract with insurance (cash-pay). This allows him to utilize many kinds of advanced and unique research-grade diagnostic tools such as Neurac’s RedCord, force plates, Biodex Dynamometers, and Simi Motion Video Analysis. As of 2013 there were only 5 other movement laboratories at the same capacity— RIHM has tremendous potential to further research in the kinesiological (human movement) field with plans to partner with Variant Training Lab in its mission.
Maury’s passion for understanding and treating human movement has also led his career internationally where he has consulted with and worked for professional and Olympic athletes. He currently serves as the Rehabilitation Coordinator for the USA National Rugby team and serves on the National Arthritis Foundation Board.
He has also been teaching at Westmont College in Santa Barbara as an adjunct professor for Research for Kinesiology Majors, Biomechanics, and Motor Behavior since 2007.
Jenna Skiff
Research DIRECTOR
Jenna completed her B.S. in Kinesiology at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, where she assisted teaching human anatomy laboratory sessions, conducted research related to human movement, metabolic physiology, and rehabilitative techniques, as well as completed advanced anatomy coursework at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Fascinated with the way the human body functions, Jenna invested herself as a physical therapy aide at Hayashida & Associates Physical Therapy in 2019 and now works to develop RIHM’s clinical research potential and community educational impact as a registered charity. While at Westmont, Jenna was deeply involved in solving Santa Barbara’s urban issues through a student ministry called Urban Initiative, and now continues to be driven with compassion to serve her community faithfully through RIHM’s human movement research and education.
Jenna plans to pursue graduate degrees in medicine or human anatomy research, enabling her to further treat and teach the intricacies of the human body.
